Lipid Peroxidation (LPO) and CATALASE (CAT) Assays

Lipid peroxidation (MDA Assay): It is a well-established mechanism of cellular injury in human cells and is used as an indicator of oxidative level in plasma, serum, cells, and tissues. LPO (MDA) is the Oxidative stress marker (To measure stress levels bio-chemically in blood serum and plasma). LPO (MDA) levels are long term effects but can be changed with a proper healthy diet, exercise, counseling, and medication (Medicines). However, the presence of catalase in our cells express bodies own antioxidant system with reduced LPO (MDA) levels in patients. But due to higher LPO (MDA) levels, the catalase is inefficient in reducing the LPO (MDA) levels which further leads to the various diseased condition. Many times the response to the medication is not up to expectation due to stress. But there was no commercial availability of measuring these parameters. Now it is possible to scientifically documented through biochemical testing we can measure the molecular level oxidative stress in patient serum samples which is a hallmark as a prognostic as well as diagnostics oxidative stress markers.

  • Benefits of LPO test
    • It is possible to understand the severe condition of the disease if already diagnosed (NIH, USA. NCBI-Pubmed for publications).
    • It is used as prognostic marker (NIH, USA. Please see the NCBI-Pubmed).

CATALASE (CAT ASSAY)

  • Catalase is a well-established mechanism of cellular function in human cells and is used as an indicator of antioxidative level in plasma, serum, cells and tissues.
  • The CAT method is designed to assay either catalase alone.
  • Higher values might also shows high proliferate ability of cells in might also lead to various stress disorder.
  • So it is recommended to check after few days the levels of catalase fall in the normal ranges.
  • Level of antioxidant in blood as well as its  cellular functioning can be assessed.
  • Can predict if it is working efficiently then what might be reasons.

Nitric Oxide Test (NO Assay):

  • NO is a pleiotropic biological mediator involved in diverse functions such as vaso-relaxation by activating soluble guanylate cyclase, inhibition of tumor cells and activities ranging from neuronal function to immune system regulation.
  • Nitric oxide (NO) is produced from L-Arginine by nitric oxide synthase in biological systems.
  • Altered levels of NO are indicative of sepsis, hypertension, type II diabetes, hypoxia, cancer, infertility, cardiovascular, neurological, pregnancies etc.
  • NO is a gaseous free radical which has very short half-life in vivo of a few seconds.
  • Therefore, levels of more stable NO metabolites, nitrite (NO2) and nitrate (NO3) are detected to estimate NO concentration in biological fluids indirectly.
